Sunday 12/17/17
Sunrise was
7:25A. I learned a long time ago that
means I need to be on the beach by 6:30A.
After grabbing a cup of coffee from the lobby, I walked out towards the
beach. There were already multiple
shades of muted red on the horizon. For the next hour and a half, I walked up
and down the beach just soaking it in.
Between the now vibrant red, muted pink and eventual gold, it was well
worth coming out for. This folks, is why
I keep coming here. There’s just
something about a long sunrise over the beach to restore one’s mental equilibrium.
As the sun approached the horizon, the reds and pinks gave way to a golden hue. The light show wasn't over yet...
With the light show fading, it was time to head back to the motel, grab some breakfast and ponder the day...
In the end, I did what I always do. I took a long walk up the beach. Around two miles up the beach you get to the area of private beach access. The beach may be public, but the walkways over the dunes are private. That's my turnaround point. I could do this every day...
I worked my way back to the furthest public walkway and started heading back. While I had walked up this far along the beach before, I hadn't explored this far up the road. Somehow I had never noticed this before...
To the left are small art shops. That blue building in back is a place called Huck-a-Poos.
In my travels, I've seen quite a few places with signed dollar bills tacked up all over the place. There seemed quite a few that had seen better days. They were curling up, moldy and just nasty. I asked. They tell me with all the storms, this place has never flooded. They leave the doors and windows open as much as possible and it the moisture reacts with the bills.
They had a decent craft beer list and let me try a few. Devil's Backbone was an interesting IPA. Hell or High Watermelon is exactly what it sounds like and not that appealing. People's Porter...delicious.
Seen on the walk back to the motel...
I took another walk out to the beach to settle in for sunset...
Dinner was once again at AJ's. On the walk back to the room, I passed numerous homes with these small lights. They were in constant motion...
