Day 1

The Easyjet flight was certainly interesting. If you've ever flown airlines like Spirit, you know what I mean. Sure, the initial ticket was dirt cheap. Oh, you want to pick a seat, that's a charge. A carry on, that's another charge. In the end, it wasn't the deal it's made out to be. But, for a two hour flight, I could suck it up.
Six years ago, I had a one day layover in Amsterdam. I added the day for the same reason I added these few days. I had to change planes here anyway.
Seen in the airport...
Getting from the airport to Central Station downtown is easy. Just follow the signs for the train, but a ticket and hop on board. Three stops later and you're in the heart of Amsterdam.
With the train station backed up on the water, there's only one way out. Across the square and a short walk later, I arrived at the Hotel Ibis Styles. It's the same place I stayed the last time. Sure the rooms are small, but it was clean and the room comes with an impressive breakfast spread.
Day 2
Tuesday, December 12, 2023
With nothing scheduled for the day, I hit the streets and just started walking.
Before my first trip to Amsterdam, I was warned that not every coffee shop was actually a coffee shop. Case in point, this place. Not a coffee cup in sight...
I passed by the Cheese Museum and stopped in.
On the main floor, it's a cheese shop with plenty of free samples to try...
If you go downstairs, there's a small museum of dutch cheese making.
I passed by but didn't go into the Cow Museum...
Up ahead there was a large police presence, barricades and a growing crowd. I had just missed South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol. That's his wife following him into their car. He was in town to sign a deal between the two countries involving semiconductors and chip manufacturing.
He had stopped in this spot to lay a wreath at the Netherlands National Monument commemorating World War II.
