Roadtrip, Day 9...Into New Jersey

Day 9

Monday, May 26, 2025

I had to be up early again for a ferry.  But, this was different.  I was headed back into Jersey.  And that makes everything right in the world.

Seen in the motel parking lot...

But of course I had to get there first...

The ferry terminal in Lewes, Delaware.

Off in the distance, frame right, the incoming ferry from Cape May.

     Leaving Delaware...

Just like last time, the ferry's speed slowed significantly.  Up ahead were two whales crossing our path.  They blew and dove a few times, then were gone.

It was a little after 10A when I arrived in Cape May.  I decided to stretch my legs a bit with a return to Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area.

This was the site of Daniel Coxe's home.  He was a personal physician for King Charles II. The king made him Governor of West Jersey from 1
697-1698.  Yes, the colony was once split East and West.  The twist is, he never left England.
     What seemed disturbing was this...

Best guess, townhouses, based on the paved road opposite that dirt.
The outter loop of the preserve runs 2.5 miles.

With no real plans, I simply did the loop a second time.  A nice five mile walk felt good.

My home for the next two nights was a place called Coastal Sands Inn.  Decent enough place.

Not that thrilled by the parking lot though.  I'll be backing out.

It's still better than the lot out front.  It's two cars deep.  If you park someone in, you're supposed to leave a key at the desk.
I did get a nice patio outside my room though.

The best part is, it's two blocks from the boardwalk.  Between Wildwood and North Wildwood, the boardwalk stretches five miles.  I didn't walk to the end, just an hour and a half before turning back.

Of course there was the seemingly obligatory chocolate and vanilla custard swirl from Kohr's.

I've seen this before and it always strikes me as a rip off.  For $13 you get to ride in the back of a monster truck.  It goes around a rectangular track which includes a few mounts of sand.  The truck goes over them so slowly, it gets no air.  Where's the fun in that?

Memorial Day Weekend is traditionally the kick off to the summer season down the shore.  Not everything was open yet.  Only one of the amusement piers was operating their rides.

Perhaps is was the chilly weather, but the boardwalk and beach were less crowded than I expected.

Sunset from my motel patio...
