Day 10
Thursday, June 10
This was the day I was going to head back to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse and try to do something I failed to do as a kid, climb to the top. With it being closed for renovation, I suddenly had a full day with nothing scheduled.
But, I still managed to get up and out for the 5:45A sunrise.
Walking the two blocks to the beach... Just something about the blue sky, yellow light and reflections.
One thing seemed strange though. Other than this crab, I seemed to have the place to myself.
Breakfast was at a place across the street called Ugly Mug Coffee. The mugs may be ugly, but the coffee was really good.
Just a walk down the beach...
On the walk back to the motel, I passed this painted horse. It was part of a public art project that began in 2002. In celebration of the centennial of the Wright Brother's first flight, some were given wings. The project officially ended in 2004, but there are plenty of them still scattered around the Outer Banks.
An unexpected bonus across from the motel.
I uses to say, one of the great things about my job is that I can’t take it home. Well, the company is making plans for July 4th coverage. Since I’ll be a part of it, it was back to the motel for a conference call. I missed the last one, so I felt a bit obligated to hit this one.
Lunch was a plate of steamed shrimp at a local place called Ocean's Bistro. Taylor, never stopped moving and seemed to have a great deal of knowledge about the craft beers on their taps.
Back out on the beach, I walked out on the municipal pier and watched the surfers down below. I don't know who this kid is, but he seemed to have some good moves.
At the water's edge, Maggie, the black lab, was having the time of her life chasing down tennis balls in the surf. The family is from Columbus, Ohio. She does this in lakes all the time, but it's her first visit to the ocean. We were properly introduced when I walked down to the sand.
Just for kicks, I did drive out to the Cape Hatteras light.
