June Roadtrip, Day 14, Revisiting Wildwood

Day 14

Monday, June 14

I've seen a lot of things when I go out for sunrise on a beach.  This time was the first I had actually seen someone out smoothing down the sand.

After breakfast at a place called Sharkys, it was time to pack up the room.  Last time I had booked the early ferry and had to rush.  Lesson learned, this time I booked the noon one.  This gave me plenty of time to head back to the beach for a nice walk.

The email from the Lewes Cape May Ferry suggested checking in early.  No problem.  I parked in my assigned lane and settled in to wait.  Security officers wandered through and randomly asked people to pop their trunks.

They loaded the cars first, then filled with RVs and a few midsized trucks.  Unlike the last three ferry rides, this one was packed full.  Vehicles were parked with about a foot of clearance bumper to bumper.  It's a pretty easy hour and a half ride.  Of course, some had an easier time seeing what was going on that others.

Previously, I had only been to Wildwood twice.  Once as a kid and once just for an overnight.  This time it was still just a overnight, but I rolled into town significantly earlier.  Lunch was at the Mudhen Brewing Company.  Good food, great staff and tasty beer!

It was still too early to check into the Happy Days Inn, but the sign did say I could park alongside.  So, I ditched the car and walked out to the boardwalk.

Of course I just had to stop at Kohr's for a frozen custard...

I realize it's been a while since I hit the Jersey Shore during the summer months.  But, I seem to remember the folks working at the games of chance being a little more energetic in their pitch.

How do you find the dog park?  It's right by the giant fire hydrant of course.

It was time to head back to the room and check in.  It's an older facility, but seemed to be well kept.  I was fine, but two people with luggage would have been cramped.

Family sized dryer, right by the log flume.

I realize here in the deep south they'll deep fry pretty much anything.  But, this just seems so very wrong.

At a T-shirt stand...

With the evening light starting to fade, it was time to find the right spot for sunset...

With the light fading, activity on the pier picked up.  The roller coasters actually had screaming riders.
