Roadtrip, Day 16... Into Maryland

Day 16

Monday, June 2, 2025

Even though the Super 8 didn't seem like much, I still crashed out hard.  Oddly, there were no lights by the bed.  That was a new one for me.

Sunrise over Havre de Grace, shot through the motel room window.

Heading south, it was a given I'd hit traffic in Baltimore and DC, or as the locals refer to it, The District.
So, I drove out to a city park, near the top of Chesapeake Bay.  Might as well get a bit of calm before hitting the interstate.

During the War of 1812, British troops landed and sacked the town.  From offshore, their ships fired rockets that created a loud racket.   They were designed to cause chaos and panic, rather than do any real damage.

After leaving the park, I headed south, hitting the expected slow downs around the Baltimore.

I had called Pam and Steve with my plan.  They lived next door to my parents the whole time they lived in Maryland.  It was great  to just sit and chat for a while.
But, I did have a stop to make.  We said our good-byes and I drove on to Bealesville.

It still seems a bit surreal that Mom's been gone for a year, and Dad's been gone for thirty.  But, it
did feel good to stop in the Cemetery and visit.

It was a little late to look for a hiking trail, so I just drove on to Frederick, my home for the next two nights.
On the drive through, I did stop and made my one brewery stop for the day.

On the wall behind the bar.

The beer was decent, but not on my mental list for a return visit.
Coal Creek bisects the city.  A few blocks have been turned into a small park.

My home for the night was the Frederick, Maryland Motel 6.  The room was surprisingly large.  It's another place in the midst of renovation and perfectly respectable.

Sunset shot from the motel walkway...
